Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When will Lee Memorial Hospital and the adjoining Medical Office Center have new telephone numbers?

A. Aug. 2

Q. What happens if I dial an old number after Aug. 2?

A. One of three things will happen, depending on the number being called:

  • The call will automatically be forwarded to the new telephone number if someone calls the old main line for the hospital or Medical Office Center, or any of the old main department numbers.
  • The caller will receive a voicemail message stating the new telephone number for a department or individual.
  • The caller will receive a notification that the number is no longer in service. If this occurs, the caller should contact the main department number or the main number for the hospital or Medical Office Center to be transferred. On Aug. 2, the new phone numbers will be listed here: www.LeeMemorial.org/phones .

All fax machine numbers are also changing and will automatically be forwarded to the new numbers; therefore, the old numbers will continue to operate along with the new numbers for a period of time. All numbers will be forwarded for at least 90 days during the transition.

It is important that you begin using the new numbers as soon as possible instead of continuing to dial the old numbers. The transition period during which old numbers are forwarded is temporary.

Q. What do I do if I call a number and receive a “no longer in service” notification?

A. You should call the new department number for the person you are looking for, which can be found here on Aug. 2: www.LeeMemorial.org/phones .

If you do not know the department of the person you are looking for, call the hospital’s new main number at 343-2000.

Q. Will any telephone numbers at Lee Memorial Hospital or the adjoining Medical Office Center remain the same?

A. All telephone numbers and fax machine numbers are changing, so all numbers will have a “343” exchange, such as 239-343-5555.

Q. Why are Lee Memorial Hospital and the Medical Office Center getting new telephone numbers?

A. Lee Memorial Health System is updating its telephone systems at all facilities to provide more advanced communication capabilities between facilities. Gulf Coast Medical Center, the Information Systems offices on College Parkway, the Regional Cancer Center, the Outpatient Center at The Sanctuary and Lee Physician Group at College Pointe already have the new Cisco telephone system. HealthPark Medical Center is scheduled to receive the new telephone system by December 2010, and Cape Coral Hospital’s phones will be updated in 2011.

Q. Other than calling new numbers, will anything else change with the telephone system that will affect me as a patient or friend or family member of a patient?

A. Our new telephone system will enable us to provide even better patient care and improve customer satisfaction!

The new system is capable of providing an automated patient room directory. That means anyone calling to speak to a patient will be able to enter the correct information and be directly transferred to the patient’s room. Therefore, nurses and other caregivers will spend less time transferring telephone calls and, ultimately, more time administering patient care!

The new telephone system also provides the ability to do daily reports that will help us determine which areas of the hospital have the highest volumes of calls. We will be able to redistribute staff to those areas when necessary to decrease wait times and increase your satisfaction with our service!
