April Tips of the Month:
Playground Safety Tips
-
Have proper surface material around
playground equipment. Avoid asphalt, concrete, grass and
soil. Acceptable surfaces include shredded rubber, mulch or
fine sand.

Surfacing should be 12 inches deep and
extended a minimum of 6 feet in all directions around
stationary equipment.

Surfacing may need to be further than 6
feet depending on the height of equipment.

Always supervise children when using
playground equipment.

Remove hoods and drawstrings from child's
clothing.

Ensure that children play on age
appropriate equipment.
-
Check equipment frequently for sharp
points, corners, edges that can develop as a result of wear
and tear on the equipment.
