July Tips of the Month: Heat Cramps
Heat cramps are painful contractions of the muscles (most
often leg muscles). When you get dehydrated you are weak, dizzy,
exhausted and can have difficulty thinking clearly. Feeling
nauseous, drenched in sweat, dark urine with a strong odor and
muscle cramps are all warning signs of dehydration.
What to do:
Stop the exercise, begin to drink extra fluids and gently
massage and stretch the involved muscle to help increase blood
flow and reduce cramps.
