July Tips of the Month: Heat Exhaustion
Is the body's response to a loss of water
and electrolytes. Symptoms include high temperature (up to 104°
F), nausea, paleness, rapid heartbeat, confusion, inattention,
fainting, and cold moist, sweaty skin.
What to do: If heat
exhaustion is suspected stop exercise, lie down, and cool down,
(ice bags to neck, underarms). Do Not use rubbing alcohol.
Do not give medications to reduce temperature. Keep
their legs slightly elevated and loosen any tight clothing. Seek
medical attention as soon as possible.
