July Tips of the Month: Heat Stroke
This is a life-threatening emergency. It is
caused by the body's inability to sweat while continuing to
overheat. Any temperature above 103°
F should be suspect and medical attention obtained immediately.
What to do: Signs of heat
stroke are hot, dry skin with no sweat, confusion, throbbing
headache, rapid heartbeat and/or unconsciousness. Emergency help
should be gotten immediately. Until help arrives begin cooling
down the victim. Do not use rubbing alcohol. Do not force
fluids on the victim as this poses a choking danger.
