BAC = Blood Alcohol Concentration

BAC < .06

  • Beginning of sensory-motor impairment.

  • Dulling of attention, judgment and control.

  • Loss of efficiency in finer motor skill performance tests.

  • Reduction of ability to do more than one task at a time.

BAC .07-.10

  • Definite impairment of muscle coordination.

  • Impairment of driving skills.

  • Clear deterioration of reaction time and control.

  • Risk for crashes 6 times greater than when sober.

BAC .17-.20

  • Vomiting usually occurs, unless this level is reached slowly or a person has developed a tolerance to alcohol.

  • Balance and moving are impaired.

  • Vision is blurred.

  • Speech is slurred and unclear.

  • Significant loss of ability to carry on a conversation, make rational judgments and perceive events.

  • Risk for crashes 40 times greater than when sober.
