Check outlets for any loose fitting plugs, they can overheat and
cause a fire. 2. Replace any missing or broken wall plates.
3. Place safety covers on all unused outlets that are accessible to
children.
4. Check cords for frayed or cracked areas.
5. Do not nail or staple cords to walls or baseboards.
6. Do not place cords under rugs or rest any furniture on them.
7. Make sure plugs fit the outlet - Do not force a plug into an outlet.
8. Make sure bulbs are the correct wattage for the fixture.
9. Bulbs need to be screwed securely, loose bulbs can overheat.
10. Extension cords should only be used on a temporary basis, they are
not intended as permanent household wiring.
11. Do not overload extension cords.
12. Don't leave appliances plugged in where they might fall into the
water.
13. Check electric lawnmowers and power tools before each use for frayed
cords, broken plugs, or broken housing. Repair or replace if any
damage noted prior to use. Use an extension cord marked for outdoor
use and rated for power needs of your tools.
14. Do not use electric tools or lawnmowers in the rain or on wet
surfaces.
15. When using ladders stay at least 10 feet form all overhead wires and
power lines.
16. Unplug or turn off small appliances when you leave the home.
