Trauma Is Preventable

The majority of injuries in adults and almost all injuries in children can be prevented. Simple precautions can be taken to avoid injury to yourself and others. The trauma program is committed to providing education on injury prevention to the general public and trauma education for caregivers at all facilities in the area.

Lee County is fortunate to have a community based Injury Prevention Coalition. Members include Lee County Health Department, Lee County Emergency Medical Services, American Red Cross, Lee County Parks and Recreation, Lee County Aquatics Department, Lee County Sheriffs Department, Fort Myers City Police Department, Cape Coral Police Department, National Highway Traffic Safety Association, Lee Memorial Health System, AARP, Florida Highway Patrol, Sanibel Police Department and Department of Transportation. This committee has developed a strategic plan for injury prevention in Lee County and is working collaborately to provide injury prevention education throughout the community. Education for the community is provided through health fairs, education programs, videos, public service announcements and child passenger safety seat checkpoints.
