Quality
patient care and rigorous attention to patient safety are hallmarks
of Lee Memorial Health System (LMHS).
LMHS Quality goes beyond Reported
Standards to Change Lives
Our commitment to quality led LMHS to become
one of the earliest members of the Institute for Healthcare
Improvement (IHI). This leading quality improvement organization is
identifying best practices based on measurable outcomes to ensure
that the right treatment is given to the right patient every time.
The focus has been on inpatient safety improvements.
Through IHI, the 100,00 Lives Campaign was
created and successfully implemented to document the lives that have
been saved by using evidence-based methods and procedures of care.
New techniques have been applied to situations including rapid
emergency response teams, protecting patients from developing pneumonia
when using a ventilator to help them breathe, and protecting
surgical sites and central intravenous lines from infection. LMHS
not only adopted these life-saving quality care methods, but also
continues to serve as a Mentor Hospital sharing our success with
others nationally.
The latest IHI campaign is to protect 5 million
lives by preventing potentially harmful medical incidents over the
next two years, through continued use of best practices for patient
care. LMHS is also participating in the IHI collaborative
"Transforming Medical Surgical Care at the Bedside" along with more
than 25 other hospitals across the country. The redesign of medical
surgical care is now a standard for three (3) units at Lee Memorial
Hospital and early outcomes are very positive. This IHI quality work is the cutting edge, state-of-the-art
effort for healthcare. To learn more about IHI, click:

Quality is Recognized Nationally through Numerous Awards
Each of our five hospitals has achieved
Solucient's 100 Top Hospitals ranking overall and for various
categories of high quality clinical care including Heart and
Vascular, Orthopedics, Stroke and Intensive Care. We have also been
ranked among the top hospitals for our culture of performance
improvement. These rankings are based on reported measures
compared against other hospital peers nationally. This is an
extraordinary accomplishment, considering that there are nearly
5,000 hospitals nationally. Please
