| Osteoporosis Scanning
Bone density testing is one of the best ways available to
identify whether you are at risk for developing osterporosis, an
ailment which leads to brittle bones and fractures. The Women's
Breast Health Centers offer DEXA osteoporosis scanning, which can
give your physician an accurate picture of your bone density early
enough to help make a real difference in the outcome.
Mammography
A mammogram is the best examination to detect small cancers up to
two years before they can be felt by you or your doctor. Offered to
all patients, our mammography procedure uses an extremely low dose
X-ray and is considered to be safe. A mammogram, which uses
compression of the breast to obtain a good study, usually takes
about 15 minutes. This compression of the breast, which can be
somewhat uncomfortable, is necessary to assure a technically
accurate exam.
Mammography and a physical examination typically are
the only tests recommended for breasts containing mostly fatty
tissue.
